  • As Commissioner, you will be at the helm of a high-profile agency tasked with overseeing the sustainable and responsible development of the Cook Islands' seabed minerals sector. Reporting directly to the Minister for Seabed Minerals, you will lead a dynamic team, shaping the future of an industry that balances economic growth, environmental stewardship, and cultural integrity.

    This role requires a strategist, a diplomat, and a problem-solver who thrives on complexity. Your work will span policy development, stakeholder engagement, environmental sustainability, and community relations — all while ensuring the Cook Islands maintains its leadership on the global stage of seabed minerals governance.

    Requirements:

    • At least 15 years in senior leadership roles, ideally in resource management or governance.

    • Expertise in policy development, stakeholder relations, and environmental sustainability.

    • A strategic thinker with exceptional  communication and negotiation skills.

    • Relevant degree (postgraduate preferred).

    • A deep appreciation for the Cook Islands’ culture, traditions, and aspirations & proficiency in Cook Islands Maori

Oceanography Research Opportunity for Cook Islanders
Study at Oregon State University, USA

Are you passionate about our ocean and ready to take that next big step in your science career? Here’s your chance! CIC Ocean Research, in partnership with Oregon State University (OSU), is offering a fully funded Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) position for a Master of Science in Marine Resource Management—starting 16 September 2025.

What You’ll Do:
Be part of real deep-sea research! You’ll study deep-sea biodiversity in the Cook Islands using baited camera and trap data to help build an ecological baseline for our seabed. The work supports important research for a Cook Islands deep-sea mining license area (CBG4).

Where:
Based in the Ecological Oceanography Lab at OSU, with fieldwork in the Cook Islands

Who Should Apply:
Cook Islanders with a bachelor’s degree in marine science, oceanography, or a related field—or strong relevant work experience. Experience with marine fieldwork, R or Python data analysis, and scientific writing is a plus.

What’s Covered:
You’ll earn a monthly salary of USD $3,142, plus benefits and tuition fully covered!
