This week’s Cook Islands diaspora consultations in New Zealand have amounted to a shotgun approach to current affairs covering a variety of topics of national importance. Prime Minister Mark Brown and his delegation spoke on seabed minerals exploration, the 60 years of self-governance anniversary next year, and the future of the nation.

Govt consultations in NZ for Cook Islanders

The Cook Islands Government, led by Prime Minister Mark Brown, is preparing to engage with Cook Islands communities across Aotearoa New Zealand from November 18 to 22 in a week-long diaspora consultation.

Aitutaki supports seabed minerals exploration

Last week, a delegation led by Prime Minister Mark Brown visited Aitutaki to carry out consultations on the seabed minerals (SBM) sector. The public expressed generally strong support for the Government’s development of the sector, and the current Exploration Programme underway.

MV Seasurveyor at Avatiu Harbour

The first of the Seabed Minerals research vessels berthed at Avatiu Harbour this week. The MV Seasurveyor which is chartered by the CIC Seabed Minerals exploration company arrived on Thursday.

SBMA Release: Authority announces assessment of exploration licence applicants

The Seabed Minerals Authority (Authority) has completed its assessment of the companies that applied for exploration licenses, and is pleased to announce that the following applicants have met the relevant criteria in the Seabed Minerals Act 2019: CIC Limited (CIC), CIIC Seabed Resources Limited (CIICSR), Moana Minerals Limited (Moana Minerals).
