The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) of the Government of India, in accordance with its contract for exploration for polymetallic nodules signed with the International Seabed Authority (ISA), is offering nine (9) online training opportunities to candidates from developing States under its 2021 training programme.

China Ocean Mineral Resources R & D Association (COMRA), pursuant to its contract for exploration for polymetallic nodules signed with ISA on 22 May 2001, is offering ten (10) online training opportunities for candidates from developing States between December and March 2022.

China Minmetals Corporation (CMC) in accordance with its contract for exploration of polymetallic nodules signed with ISA on 12 May 2017 is offering four (4) engineering training opportunities to candidates from developing States as part of its 2021 training programme. In view of the COVID-19 pandemic and related constraints, the training will be conducted completely online from September to December 2021.

Nauru Ocean Resources Inc (NORI) in accordance with its exploration contract for polymetallic nodules is offering one (1) scholarship for a master’s degree Programme in Marine Management, Biology, Environmental Science, Marine Science, Earth Sciences, Geosciences or Geology for a developing State national starting in January 2022.

The NORI Scholarship will cover the direct costs required to complete a Master’s Programme at the Fiji campus of the University of the South Pacific (USP), including tuition, accommodations, roundtrip economy class airfare and a living allowance. The Master Programme at USP typically takes 12-18 months to complete. In addition to financial support, the Scholarship recipient will be offered access to NORI’s resources which may include access to offshore opportunities and staff if these can assist with the recipient’s studies.

Marawa Research and Exploration Ltd. is pleased to offer two (2) undergraduate scholarships to Developing States candidates with an interest in the deepsea minerals industry. The scholarship is open to students wishing to pursue studies in marine science, geology or engineering. Candidates must clearly articulate their interest in the seafloor minerals industry, preferably polymetallic nodules and how their selected degree will allow them to contribute to the seafloor minerals industry in the future.

The three-year undergraduate degree will be offered through the University of the South Pacific https://www.usp.ac.fj and will start in January 2022.

The position is located in the Office of Administrative Services (OAS) and reports directly to the Director.

The Office of Administrative Services provides general administrative and management support to the Secretariat. Its functions include financial management and control, preparation of proposed budgets, assessment of contributions of member States, recruitment of staff and contractors, procurement of goods and services, personnel management and security.

The applicant is expected to be experienced in all matters within the full range of human resources management issues of the administrative unit and to use initiative to resolve problems and identify exceptions. The applicant is also expected to adhere to applicable UN guidelines, policies and procedures while undertaking these duties.

This internship is situated in the Office of Legal Affairs (OLA) at The International Seabed Authority (ISA) under the supervision of a legal officer or any other staff member within the OLA team. Daily tasks include assisting the team with completing and optimizing the day-to-day tasks within the office. Selections will be made on a rolling basis. Workdays are Monday to Friday. In view of the pandemic, work from home and flexi-hours arrangements are available for this role, which will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

The internship is centered on assisting Executive Office of the Secretary-General at The International Seabed Authority's (ISA) in completing a 12 week digitization project. The project will involve appraising, selecting, describing, and archiving official records.

The minimum period for this position is for two months with an opportunity for extension pending on the needs of the department.

The internship is centered on assisting The International Seabed Authority's (ISA) Communications Unit in producing and disseminating a range of strategic communications and public information products with a view to increasing the organization’s visibility.

The minimum period for this positions is for two months with an opportunity for extension pending on the needs of the department.

The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Unit Chief.
